Ten years after the UCSF Mission Bay campus was established, UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay – the key patient-care component of the campus – is only two years away from opening.

A decade after opening its first research building at San Francisco’s Mission Bay, UCSF has far surpassed its ambitious vision for a campus that today is an epicenter for science, health and hope.

With UCSF Mission Bay gleaming brighter every day, it’s easy to forget a time when some UCSF researchers did not want to leave the hive of activity on the Parnassus Heights campus for entirely new labs across town in a once-forsaken neighborhood.

UCSF will launch the celebration of the Mission Bay campus' 10-year anniversary on Wednesday, Jan. 23, with a news conference and reception at Genentech Hall that will be livestreamed.

The UCSF Mission Bay campus has since its inception been a magnet for younger research faculty.
